MPEG IMX
Launched in 2000, MPEG IMX combines picture quality equivalent to Digital Betacam with the opportunity to move into a combined AV/IT production environment. MPEG IMX is a standard definition format for the full range of broadcast applications providing next generation, file-based networked production on both tape and disc (XDCAM) media.
To maximise interoperability for networked production, MPEG IMX camcorders and VTRs adhere to the SMPTE D-10 open standard. It also supports the SMPTE standardised MXF file interchange format as a standard feature of the XDCAM system and via an upgrade kit for tape-based MPEG IMX VTRs. The latter ‘e-VTR’ option is a unique AV/IT bridge that enables an MPEG IMX VTR to send and receive MXF files across a standard IT network.
MPEG IMX is based on half-inch tape technology and selected MPEG IMX VTRs within the product line-up can play all standard definition Betacam-family cassettes, offering a gateway to networked production for Betacam, Betacam SP, Betacam SX and Digital Betacam tapes as well as MPEG IMX
